Our School of STEM has an outstanding opportunity for a Communications & Marketing Manager.
Content Development: Develop content for ORGS external and internal print and electronic communications (web, newsletters, social media platforms, recruitment materials, research portfolios, etc.); may be responsible for developing first draft content, editing the work of others, providing final proof, or any or all of the stages of the communication development process.
Write/edit communications that are clear, accurate, set the appropriate tone, and align with the UW brand. Communications may be newsletters, parts of a marketing campaign (ads, posters, postcards, etc.), descriptions of faculty research, event-related, information sessions (online and PowerPoint), etc.
Collaborate with the office of Advancement and External Relations to track, evaluate, and report on effectiveness of communications outreach, making adjustments to these efforts over time.
Marketing Effectiveness: In consultation with others (Director of Graduate Academic Services, Associate Dean for Research Innovation and Graduate Studies, Chairs of Divisions, degree program advisors, Professional and Continuing Education) help develop and implement marketing strategies, including identifying the audience, clarifying goals and objectives, determining the best method of reaching target audiences (broadcast email, web content, social media, etc.), developing communications timelines and plans, and crafting messaging.
Improve overall communication effectiveness and strive for innovative communication delivery. Anticipate market trends and be effective in facilitating and managing creative processes to achieve results in self and others.
Maintain and implement social media strategy: Write copy, post interactive content such as photos and videos, curate relevant content from other sources, monitor visitor interaction with social media sites (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.) in compliance with relevant policy and procedure, and monitor and use user statistics to guide future management. Coordinate with related initiatives, programs, and divisions in STEM.
Collaborate with the office of Advancement and External Relations to evaluate the effectiveness of communications and marketing plans, tracking and reporting the results of communications and outreach efforts.
Communication Liaison: Represent ORGS or School of STEM at appropriate meetings to stay up-to-date on regulations and policies affecting work and seek training opportunities related to marketing and communications.
Organize and maintain shared marketing and communications file system, photos, schedule of events, and invite lists.
Maintain current awareness of STEM research and other activities (publications, presentations, grants, partnerships, etc.) to inform responsibilities.
Collaborate with the office of Advancement and External Relations to keep abreast of branding awareness and responsible branding practices.
Other: Attend regular scheduled meetings with UW Bothell's Marketing and Communications team.
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
Two years managing specialized communications programs in an academic research environment
Advanced knowledge of MS Office: Outlook, Excel, Word
Advanced knowledge of Adobe products: Photoshop, Acrobat Professional, InDesign
Advanced knowledge of Google search methodology and analytics
Ability to use Facebook and other social media platforms to effectively and responsibly communicate brand message
Ability to communicate effectively about web and internet related topics with technical and non- technical audiences
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Attentive to detail and able to work independently with limited oversight
Demonstrated ability to complete projects on time and on budget
Ability to work with a diverse constituency
Experience working with graduate degree programs in STEM, experience working with fee-based programs at UW, familiarity with University of Washington branding guidelines, and communications best practices.
Condition of Employment:
Work space in open air cubicle, may require occasional evening or weekend hours. Standard office hours are 9am to 6pm.
