The Department of University Marketing is seeking a Marketing Writer. This is a full-time, 1.00 FTE, 12-month, fixed term professional faculty position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
The Marketing Writer position is for a versatile, creative writer whose primary responsibility is to tell the stories of outstanding faculty and students, share research discoveries and highlight the accomplishments and impacts of Oregon State University.
The Marketing Writer must:
Be able to write copy that captures the reader's interest, explains complex information clearly and speaks in the university's brand voice.
Write quickly, accurately and creatively for multiple audiences on a variety of topics. Attention to detail in spelling, grammar and AP style are all essential.
The division of University Relations and Marketing (URM) seeks to enhance and build the brand image of the university with key constituents by planning and carrying out marketing and communications strategies that support the university's goals. The division serves as a resource for faculty to communicate their research to a broader audience. The division provides leadership and support across university functions by providing services in the areas of marketing and communications planning, messaging, advertising, design, web content and market research. University Relations and Marketing works to increase the university's name recognition and awareness — locally, regionally, nationally and globally — through varied communications platforms and strategies that support the overall strategic messaging of the university.
The Marketing Writer will:
Have experience writing creative, persuasive, marketing-focused copy in a variety of styles for print, web and digital applications. This position writes copy that promotes the university's academic, research, outreach and engagement programs, as well as strategic initiatives and priorities.
Provide creative and marketing expertise to communicate effectively with prospective/current students, alumni/donors, faculty/staff and other internal and external audiences. This position researches and writes copy for materials including electronic newsletters, college and department brochures, research news and publications, student recruitment publications, advertising for various media including print, digital, radio and TV, web content, videos and event promotions, among others.
Create marketing copy that supports our clients' goals and strategies. Clients include college deans, communications directors and faculty, as well as the Office of Admissions and other university departments and programs.
Coordinate, write and edit content in collaboration with University Relations and Marketing managers and staff members, along with university faculty, staff and students. This position is part of an internal creative services team supporting marketing and communications strategies that promote the university, colleges, units, research and academic developments, programs and events. This position develops strategies and writes copy that helps to achieve specific project objectives.
Develop relationships with faculty and campus communicators as sources for stories and other content. This position works with internal marketing managers, editors and graphic designers in University Marketing to ensure copy aligns with Oregon State's messaging system and brand voice. Along with other members of the creative team, this position presents content strategies to faculty, campus communicators and program managers, creates and circulates drafts for review, incorporates feedback into revisions, edits and proofreads their own copy, edits and proofreads content written and prepared by others and establishes and meets deadlines.
Ensure all written materials represent the university's commitment to maintaining and enhancing an inclusive campus community.
