This position is the Parks and Recreation Department with the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of a division or department head. The Public Information and Marketing Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating department-specific communications programs and activities that can help employees improve service delivery. Essential job functions include: planning and conducting public information programs designed to create and maintain a favorable image of the City; disseminating information to inform the public of department programs, activities, and services; preparing and distributing news releases to media representatives; and arranging exhibits, tours, and public speaking engagements. In addition, the employee is responsible for responses to citizen requests for services and information; processing complaints; ensuring expedient action is taken by the City or department; assessing citizen attitudes and opinions; and increasing the effectiveness of services to the public. Additional duties may include: managing and supervising other, more specialized service delivery functions including developing and conducting customer relations training; administering employee recognition programs; facilitating employee involvement programs; developing customer and employee communications; facilitating and promoting departmental customer service efforts; media buying; developing social media marketing strategies; and developing long-range marketing plans to sell department programs. Direct, technical, and functional supervision is provided to subordinate staff by assigning and evaluating work accomplishments, resolving problems, and training new employees. The position requires well-developed communication skills to maintain effective working relationships with City employees at all levels of the organization, outside agencies, media representatives, and the public. Additionally, the position provides technical assistance to executive management by performing special projects and responding to sensitive issues and concerns. The employee's work is reviewed for general effectiveness and compliance with governing policies and regulations.

Additional Salary Information: Note: The normal entrance salary for this position is $64,748.88/annually. A higher salary may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City's step placement policy.
