The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking a Marketing Specialist. The Marketing Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the marketing and communications of UMB administrative units and schools. Administer marketing projects from request to completion by coordinating workflow, timelines, deadlines, and budgets. This position is responsible for managing the creation of marketing materials to target audiences.

Support the University's marketing needs across a multifaceted marketing plan, which includes publications, social media, web content creation/management, and more. Assist in the development and implementation of marketing strategies.
Identify the communication needs and goals of UMB's administrative units and schools, and develop and execute effective marketing strategies to achieve those goals. Define desired outcomes and deadlines.
Manage operational effectiveness within the marketing function to ensure projects specifications and defined outcomes are met.
Manage the University's email marketing system, which includes developing newsletters, announcements, and invitations, as well as other targeted emails based on need. Make recommendations on the best use of current email marketing through maintaining and reviewing analytics.
Assist with social media, including creating and publishing content, moderating accounts, and evaluating new social media outlets.
Manage production and distribution of marketing materials, including brochures, direct mail, and advertising, to a target audience. Generate proposals, contracts and other documents to secure business. Negotiate terms and conditions with some latitude.
Research, write, edit, and summarize content for inclusion in marketing materials for distribution and the web.
Assist with general administrative and finance functions, including internal billing and business management.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education : Bachelors in Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism, or Business preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in marketing, communications, public or client relations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possess a thorough knowledge of creating, curating, and publishing multimedia content requirements and able to perform the position in compliance with all requirements/regulations/laws. Maintain high standards with the work being performed and maintain awareness with trends and influences. Assume personal responsibility for all outcomes to prioritize ongoing and new projects, as well as facilitating the timely completion of production phases; makes effective and timely decisions.
Proficiently and effectively use Microsoft Office programs, popular social media platforms, website content management systems, and Adobe Creative Cloud/Suite, as well as knowledge of Mac and PC operating systems. Maintain productivity and uses Strategic and analytical thinking skills with the ability to market complex information and capable of identifying and solving problems in a timely manner and meet challenges with resourcefulness. Able to make independent decisions that are a matter of significance for the unit.
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with multi-dimensional points of view and to take accountability for deliverables and results; skill in managing multiple complex tasks and projects concurrently; exceptional organizational skills.
Strong writing and editorial skills; knowledge of AP style. Effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Write and present information in a clear and concise way. Interpret and understand written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding.
Work cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others at various levels throughout the University. Demonstrate pleasant and positive interactions with other to meet customer expectations, and provide follow up with customers. Reach compromise and consensus to influence and negotiate. Remain calm and manage conflict, and work well with a diverse workforce.
