The Director of MarCom works with the MarCom team to promote Houghton’s programs, offerings, image, and reputation as a national leader in Christian liberal arts education by managing the creative voice and brand of the college in electronic, printed, and spoken forms, serving as the college’s primary news contact.
The Director of Marketing and Communications reports directly to the Vice President for Planning and Innovation. S/he supervises the MarCom team in its key domains of marketing, content creation, design, media relations, web-coordination, and production. Key partners include the enrollment/admissions team, the advancement team, and the President’s Office.
Leads and manages the Marketing/Communication area of the college including the following functions: marketing, advertising, media relations, creative services, web development and maintenance, sports information, the Houghton Magazine, and all communication needs of the college.
Works closely with members of the Marketing/Communication team in the accomplishment of institutional goals and objectives.
Develops alongside the MarCom team an integrated marketing plan that seeks increased admission applications, increased donors, and an increased regional and national media presence through public relations and advertising.
Facilitates the development and promotion of content about Houghton’s programs, people, events, and other information that enhances the college’s image/reputation while supporting the institution’s overall mission and purposes.
Serves as point of contact for all crisis or situational communication needs of the college.
Promotes and assists in events and special activities related to Houghton College.

Statement of Requirements:
Minimum of bachelor’s degree, preferably in an area like journalism, communications, public relations, integrated marketing, or a related field.
Five to seven years of experience working in a marketing/communication area involving elements of media, design/content creation, advertising, and general marketing skills.
Experience and savvy in the area of digital marketing and social media.
