Eligible Special Selection clients should contact their Disability Counselor for assistance. DESCRIPTIONThe California Smokers' Helpline (CSH) is part of the UCSD Moores Cancer Center. The Helpline conducts research as well as provides free cessation related counseling service. The Helpline was the first statewide telephone-counseling service for smoking cessation in the U.S. that was based on experimentally-proven protocol (established in 1992). Cessation service is now provided using telephone-based and internet-based protocols. The phone counseling service is provided in six languages--English, Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), Korean, and Vietnamese. The Helpline conducts high-caliber intervention research as well as population studies. The Helpline is funded to conduct two large and ongoing surveys in California: the California Student Tobacco Survey (CSTS) and the survey to evaluate California's TUPE (Tobacco Use Prevention Education) program. The Helpline currently has grants and contract in excess of $10 million annually. Under general direction, the Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for the development, oversight, implementation, and evaluation of an integrated marketing strategy to advance the goals of the Smokers Helpline. The Marketing and Communications Manager supervises a staff of communications and outreach specialists and oversees a variety of marketing and outreach strategies to increase awareness of Helpline services among consumers and health professionals and ultimately resulting in increased intakes to the Helpline. Such strategies include but are not limited to a robust web platform, search engine optimization, search advertising, digital advertising, direct mail, email marketing, social media, print materials, trade show participation, and presentations. Strategies might also include collaborating with healthcare systems, local lead agencies, and information and referral organizations to implement direct referrals of tobacco users and non-tobacco using proxies to the Helpline service.
