Director of Communications and Marketing - (21001274)
The Director of Communications and Marketing is responsible for leading the strategic communications and marketing services for Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and supervises members of the team. The Office of Communications and Marketing is responsible for creating strategic content for internal and external communications channels (except media), for producing a wide range of digital (website, social, email) and print communication, for managing digital communications, and for managing our marketing communications for our educational, research, community outreach, and clinical programs. Key audiences served by marketing programs include prospective and current students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, stakeholders, government officials, referring veterinarians, and current/future hospital clientele. The Director of Communications reports to the Dean, works with the senior leadership team, and interfaces with University Communications and Marketing and central IT.
The Director of Communications and Marketing is responsible for leading the communications and marketing strategy and efforts of Cummings School. Working closely with the dean and other members of Cummings School, the Director leads the design and executes communications and marketing programs that promote the goals and mission of Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine across all of its programs. The Director is responsible for managing a team of at least 3 people. Key activities include content development and/or writing, oversight of the website, digital communications and social media strategy, production of the School annual reports, conceptualization and development of marketing initiatives, high-quality marketing materials and messaging. The Director will provide annual evaluation and reporting on the effectiveness of communications and marketing strategies. They provide leadership, training, and mentorship to staff, and temporary workers. They guide and direct outside vendors and consultants on projects.
Bachelor's degree in related area of study (e.g., journalism, marketing, communications, or related field) and 7+ years of relevant communications and/or marketing experience.
Self-motivated with ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent computer skills and ability to use relevant programs.
Experienced with project management, project leadership, and team leadership.
Understanding of data, both quantitative and qualitative
Experience with some or all of web content management systems, Mail Chimp, social media applications, Adobe Creative Suite
A strong sense of social and racial justice, and an interest in advancing the diversity and inclusion efforts of Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine
Valid US Driver's License
Ability to lift up to 15 lbs. with or without accommodation.
A general appreciation of the STEM sciences, role of animals in society, veterinary medicine, and the importance of research in advancing the health of animals, people, and the environment.
Experience in education or non-profit setting preferred.
Experience developing or assisting in the development of communications and marketing strategies.
Excellence and experience in one of the key areas of the portfolio: content development/writing, web management, digital communication and marketing.
Ability to clearly articulate the role of communications and marketing.
Design management skills are an asset.
Previous supervisory experience is considered an asset.
