University Marketing & Communications (UMAC) has an outstanding opportunity for a Digital Marketing Automation Manager.
The Digital Marketing Automation Manager is part of a team of marketing professionals working together to maximize the effectiveness of email marketing efforts executed by University Marketing & Communications (UMAC) and to provide expert consultation services and support to unit/department marketing and communications staff across the University of Washington.
This position is a key contributor on the University’s central marketing and communications team, which is responsible for communications that represent the UW at the highest/institutional level. The Digital Marketing Automation Manager develops, analyzes and consults on marketing automation and email marketing campaigns that communicate and elevate the UW’s reputation as a world-class and leading-edge public research university. This position works with a broad range of internal stakeholders across a wide range of “businesses” within the UW (academics, athletics, arts, medicine, facilities, IT, etc.), each of which has its own sets of goals. At the same time, they are all part of the same institution, so this position helps ensure, to the greatest extent possible, that their email marketing work engages and informs our various audiences (both internal and external) while supporting the larger marketing and communications goals of the UW.
To develop effective marketing-communications strategies, this position requires: •A comprehensive understanding of the mission and brand strategy of the University of Washington. All communications must support the mission and brand through thoughtful and accurate content, style and messaging. •A comprehensive understanding of the mission and communication strategy of University Advancement and how it fits within overall University strategies and goals. •The ability to consistently produce high-quality work within tight timelines, a willingness to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, and the flexibility to respond to urgent/critical issues when they arise. •The ability to represent University Marketing and Communications professionally, empathetically and persuasively in all business contacts with the offices of the president, provost and vice presidents, internal partners, external partners and external vendors. •A drive for working successfully within a large and complex organization, with guidance from the director of digital engagement
RESPONSIBILITIES: •Consult with UMAC colleagues and unit partners on marketing automation and email strategies, project plans and best practices. •Build, send and analyze email and marketing automation campaigns for UMAC colleagues and unit partners. •Ensure quality control (e.g., testing, proofing, fact-checking, list management) on UMAC-generated email campaigns and provide quality control assistance to other units as needed. •Actively participate in governance decision-making and reinforcement as part of the Central Service Governance Committee. •Regularly analyze and interpret email performance stats, and make recommendations for adjusting our strategies and reporting based on that analysis. •Develop email and marketing automation best practices content and documentation and create related presentations. •Serve as a subject matter expert for the Advancement training team, assist with evaluation of training outcomes and make recommendations for changes to training curricula and materials. •Represent the director of digital engagement in planning and strategy meetings when necessary. •Respond to specific categories of support tickets submitted by Marketo users across the UW to share best practices and troubleshoot issues. •Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS: •Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related area of study, or related work experience •Three or more years’ experience in executing digital marketing and/or communications for an organization or brand and writing/editing a variety of communications designed for diverse audiences •Basic HTML coding experience, including the ability to successfully troubleshoot broken code •Experience with marketing automation software •Experience with A/B testing, analyzing performance metrics and contextualizing results for stakeholders •Excellent writing and project management skills and attention to detail •Familiarity with editorial style guides, such as the AP Stylebook •Ability to work successfully with colleagues/departments that have unclear goals or strategies •Commitment to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE •Proficiency in using Marketo •Familiarity with Jeto
