Under the general direction of the Associate Athletics Director, External Relations, the Assistant Director, Marketing serves as a brand steward for key sports within UC Davis Athletics, driving strategy that illuminates the brand and key department initiatives. The position is responsible for establishing a strong affinity with external constituents, building and establishing a single unified voice for messaging and enhancing customer service capabilities and performance. Additionally, the position is responsible for enhancing the fan experience, and successfully promoting the varsity sport programs.
MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS - 60% In alignment with overall strategic direction, lead the development and implementation of marketing and communication plans and tactics that strengthen the Olympic Sport brand in coordination with approx. 20 head coaches.
Direct and oversee the marketing and promotions of all Olympic Sports and certain revenue generating sports; direct and oversee the game day atmosphere at various sports venues ensuring a positive, meaningful fan and student-athlete experience.
Coordinate department digital communications and creative services for Olympic Sports.
REVENUE GENERATION - 20% For Volleyball, Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Soccer, and others as needed, do the following: Develop and execute comprehensive and integrated sales, marketing, and communication plans for ticket/parking sales.
Develop a strategic plan that focuses on the fan experience through best practice initiatives in customer service and engagement. Develop and execute a plan for digital advertising. LIAISON TO UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY - 10% Foster collaborative and cooperative relationships with each of the following units: Marching Band, Cheer and Dance spirit squads, Trademark and Licensing and Student Affairs.
CUSTOMER SERVICE & SUPERVISION - 10% Contribute to the development and execution of an internal and external customer service plan; goal to serve 25 sports programs/coaches, internal business units, university constituencies, and the UC Davis Athletic fan base/community.
Five years' experience in Intercollegiate Athletics or professional sports.
Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a large number of constituents: administrators, staff, students, donors, alumni, and media professionals.
Excellent judgment in the handling of confidential information.
Self-motivated with the ability to multitask.
Analytical and research skills.
Master's Degree, in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of UC Davis, including its achievements, mission, goals, vision, and objectives.
Skill and experience to mentor less experienced staff.
