The University of Minnesota Press is seeking an organized, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented person to join our marketing and sales team. The ideal candidate will have an interest in publishing books and contributing to culture, as well as a demonstrated track record of handling multiple projects simultaneously and providing excellent follow-through. They will work well independently while also actively contributing to a team’s success through excellent communication and collaboration.
The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) and University of Minnesota Press endorses a “work with flexibility” approach that offers a welcoming and flexible work environment where everyone is inspired to do their best. Work location options include working fully remote, partially remote, or entirely in the office and are based on the work of the position. Some on-site work may be necessary for certain positions, even those designated as fully remote.
This position has been designated as OVPR work profile two. Work profile two is expected to work on-site more than 50% of the time. Your office will be located at UPress, 111 Third Avenue South, Suite 290 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. University of Minnesota Press management retains the right to modify flexible work arrangement agreements on a temporary or permanent basis for any reason at any time.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Conference & trade show marketing (35%)
Organize and execute conference participation, in consultation with editors and marketing director, including in-person displays, virtual conference hubs, website sales, and trade shows.
Maintain project plans and timelines for all conference-based marketing activities.
Implement conference promotion as directed.
Regular attendance at trade shows and conferences, including some travel.
Digital marketing (35%)
Responsible for creating and promoting frequent website sales.
Assist social media marketing and community/influencer outreach efforts.
Disseminate e-releases to media contacts.
Research direct-to-customer, organization, and media contacts.
Responsible for maintaining NetGalley, Eventbrite, Goodreads listings.
Maintain UMP website data including events and publicity; accurate book and author listings; regular site-wide projects to ensure high quality.
Administrative support (30%)
Maintain accurate and high quality metadata in internal and external databases.
Maintain accurate publication schedule documents and distribute weekly.
Process marketing invoices and vendor set-up requests.
Order marketing department supplies regularly.
Assist with mailings as needed.
Proofreading, as assigned.
Other duties, as assigned.
BA/BS degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years.
Occassionaly moves boxes/promotion materials/conference and tradeshow banners and equipment, weighing up to 25pounds for various events needs.
Demonstrated attention to detail and high level organization skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and timelines at one time.
Proficient using Mac computers, MS Office, and Google applications.
Experience with Adobe, web-based editing, and databases.
