Santa Monica Travel & Tourism is looking for a strategic, creative, and collaborative marketing professional to lead our marketing and communications team. Reporting to the President/CEO, the Chief Marketing Officer will oversee the development, planning and implementation of all marketing and communication initiatives to generate tourism, conference, and leisure business in coordination with SMTT goals and objectives.
Lead the development of long-term strategic planning initiatives for the destination. Serve as main point of contact for third party consultants and oversee the implementation of approved plans.
Oversee the hiring, training and professional development for Marketing and Communications staff and play a key role in optimizing SMTT culture and operations.
Lead the development, global deployment and ongoing refinement of destination brand
experiences, tools, and assets.
Develop key performance indicators and present results of programs and campaigns to
Maintain communication and effective relationships with Board of Directors, Tourism
Marketing District Committee, City staff, stakeholders, internal clients, and colleagues.
Identify and leverage trends, market research and data analytics to take appropriate action
and measure success.
Evaluate and negotiate contracts with advertising agencies, public relations firms,
consultants, and publishers.
Oversee strategy, creative development, production, and maintenance of digital marketing
vehicles including santamonica.com, content, SEO/SEM, email marketing efforts and
Evaluate cooperative partnership opportunities through Brand USA, Visit California, Los
Angeles Tourism & Convention Board, and other tourism offices.
Collaborate with Business Development team to develop marketing strategies for
international tourism and meetings/conference business.
Develop and continually optimize the Visitor Marketing budget and SMTT annual
Represent SMTT on industry and community boards and committees.
A Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years marketing/communications/advertising experience. Direct experience in tourism/destination marketing a plus.
Track record as a collaborative leader who excels in managing multiple projects and is comfortable working in a fast-paced and non-traditional work environment.
Detail-oriented, yet efficient, with high standards for work products.
Excellent relationship building, leadership and organizational skills.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills. Comfortable delivering
speeches and presentations.
Strong initiative, excellent management skills and decision-making techniques.
Experience in the development and successful implementation of both international and
domestic integrated marketing campaigns.
Knowledge of Santa Monica area a plus.
Flexible regarding schedule and duties - will attend evening and weekend events.
Occasional travel required.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, Mac, database experience.
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and possession of a clean driving record.
