What you’ll be doing...
The Director of Marketing and Brand Communications will be responsible for leading and driving Verizon’s proactive marketing communications strategy, planning, development and execution.
The role will design, develop and operate a collaborative and integrated approach to all marketing, sponsorship and corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities through a respective mix of communications tactics, methods, channels, media, and activities. Core to this role is the ability to gather and interpret high-priority creative inputs from the c-suite and senior executives and turn them into a strong and cohesive plan that satisfies the KPIs of different marketing teams and Verizon business groups. Success is achieved when all marketing and communication teams work together as a unified force to favorably position the Verizon brand among customers and key stakeholder groups.
A central responsibility of this role is to ensure that all messaging and communications strategies are consistent across all channels and centered on customers in a way that is going to drive growth and create an authentic and emotional connection. This entrepreneurial and creative position requires extensive engagement with key company stakeholders across product areas and functions. The candidate will design and lead strategic announcements and product launches and manage crisis/issues management and a variety of corporate projects.
This position requires keen communications intuition, strong interpersonal skills, a team-player approach and the ability to handle confidential material. The ideal candidate will be a strategic communications professional who has the ability to promote the marketing function throughout the organization to ensure program success and drive the business forward.
A major key to success will be the ability to successfully invent campaigns and programs that drive customer engagement. This role must have the keen ability to analyze research, data analytics and measurement to demonstrate the value of communications to Verizon’s business and inform the direction of future integrated marketing programs. In addition, specific responsibilities include the following:
Serve as a strategist and communications counselor to senior executive teams on message development, crisis management, issues management and product launches
Initiate proactive and reactive public relations campaign development in coordination with business strategy and organizational objectives
Identify cultural and industry trends that lend themselves to creating opportunities for the Verizon brand, and building communications programs to leverage these opportunities
Development of a governance structure to help unite the marketing and communications functions in order to synchronize activities and goals
Proactively pitch and place stories about Verizon as a leading global technology company
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on communications strategy planning, integrated marketing programs development, and social and digital influencer initiatives
Position executives and serve as spokesperson on key issues while developing and strengthening company’s relationships with key 3rd parties, influencers, consumer lifestyle, mainstream and trade reporters.
Assist with CMO employee communications and collaborate with corporate employee communications to coordinate key internal messages
Commit to leadership and skills development for staff and self
What we’re looking for...
Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent work experience; Advanced Degree preferred
8+ years’ experience in a communications leadership role driving results for a consumer brand
Experience working with large organizations, including experience managing large budgets; experience in visual storytelling is critical; must act as a catalyst of creativity; a structured thinker who can prioritize work streams to support near- and long-term business goals
Demonstrated ability to manage, mentor and develop staff to set goals, acclimate to, and succeed within proactive and reactive social engagements and digital content strategy
The Director must be able to work with senior executives in shaping communications strategy and executing programming and, in conjunction with employee communications, generating leadership communications; experience developing national communications programs that advance the company's brand image, market positioning and corporate reputation
The Director must have strong consumer engagement strategy experience, including developing brand messaging, voice and narrative across digital channels to complete offline/digital influencer programs
The Director must be able to drive market leadership by leveraging our network and technology as a differentiator for consumers
