DEPARTMENT OVERVIEWColleges, Housing and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Business and Administrative Services (BAS) division at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in the areas of college student life and residential services, housing services, facilities, employee housing and capital planning, dining services, conference services, early education services, the Bay Tree Campus Store, ID card services, and business and financial analysis for these areas. Through these units, educational and developmental programs and services are offered to all members of the campus community including students, faculty, staff, children and external constituents. CHES provides on-campus housing and dining services to nearly 9,500 undergraduate and graduate students in ten residential colleges and six multi-college affiliated residential communities, which support single students and students with families.
The Student Housing Services unit of CHES promotes university housing and dining programs and resources, and provides convenient, accessible services where students take care of their housing and dining related business, whether they live on or off campus. The unit provides direct services supporting the campus housing program, including contract and policy development, marketing and communication, and the timely billing, collection, and reconciliation of housing and meal plan revenue for approximately 9,500 student bed spaces that generate over $90 million in auxiliary income annually.

housing.ucsc.edu JOB SUMMARYUnder the direction of the Manager of Marketing and Communications, the Dining Marketing Coordinator is responsible for the marketing communications needs of UC Santa Cruz Dining. The Dining Marketing Coordinator serves as a liaison between UC Santa Cruz Dining managers and the Marketing Communications team. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced marketing professional to perform the full range of marketing activities, including coordinating events and developing and implementing promotional strategies, materials and products designed to promote awareness within the campus community and to the general public of department and / or campus services, programs or products. Has a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues.

JOB DUTIES35% - Marketing - Develops, maintains, and executes the annual marketing plan for UCSC Dining.
- Coordinates design, production and distribution of publications and promotional materials, including internet materials, menus, table tents, advertisements, brochures, flyers, signage, A / V presentations, displays, exhibits, promotional products, etc. designed to promote awareness of UCSC Dining services, programs, and products, and related campus services, for the campus community or to the general public.
- Identifies purpose, message, and audience for new projects, and how project fits within overall marketing strategy for UC Santa Cruz Dining.
- Responds to requests for marketing collateral, signs, etc. from UC Santa Cruz Dining. Produce and edit marketing collateral using desktop publishing software.
- Researches production resources and prepares specifications to obtain bids from printers and other related vendors.
- Provides up-to-date content for Dining website.
- Maintains active social media accounts for UCSC Dining.
- Coordinates appropriate use of campus and department logos, emblems, etc.
- Discerns and adheres to brand guidelines for 5 dining halls, 8 unique retail locations, catering, and hospitality.
- Develops brand guidelines for new locations or programs as needed.
- Conducts site visits to ensure that signage and decor of each location is consistently on brand.
- Manages table tent advertising program, tabling outreach program, and fields student requests to film in the dining halls.
15% - Events - Creates, develops, produces and coordinates events, including securing private corporate sponsorship as required.
- Collaborates with Dining leadership and managers on events.
- Participates in campus events, including Orientation, Preview Day, Resource Fairs, Spring Spotlight, etc. by organizing and staffing a resource table.
- Builds relationships with vendors for promotional funds and other partnership opportunities.
15% - Communication - Establishes and maintains working relationships with Dining management team and external marketing professionals and vendors; e.g., artists, photographers, videographers, mail services, advertising representatives, media contacts, etc.
- Builds relationships with campus-affiliated and non-campus affiliated companies and organizations in related fields; e.g. Humane Society, National Association of College & University Food Services, etc.
15% - Supervise Student Staff - Recruits, trains, schedules, assigns, motivates, evaluates, and supervises 2-4 Marketing student staff.
10% - Public Relations - Develops and implements public relations strategies and initiatives to continuously enhance the perception of UC Santa Cruz Dining, especially among campus community.
- Coordinates submission of articles and press releases to regional and national publications, as well as UCSC News & Events, featuring content that supports the values and mission of UC Santa Cruz Dining (e.g. sustainability issues).
- Researches and analyzes new and innovative methods for generating revenue and develops implementation proposals.
- Advises Dining managers regarding promotions that will increase customer satisfaction, increase recognition of products, maintain a positive image, and enhance the UCSC Dining brand.
5% - Financial - Administers marketing budget as assigned, ensuring that budget goals are met while maximizing effectiveness of marketing efforts; as required meets revenue generating goals through effective relationships with external sources.
- Maintain records of expenses and reconcile monthly.
- Advise department of project specifications and cost options.
5% - Marketing Research - Researches, analyzes, monitors and evaluates marketing efforts for effectiveness, reporting results to appropriate higher levels of administration.
- Conducts two annual customer surveys in fall and spring quarter, and conducts additional surveys or focus groups as requested or needed to obtain feedback for specific departmental objectives.
- Interact with customers and student groups on a regular basis to understand their needs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Advertising, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience with planning and implementing marketing programs. Thorough knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
- Demonstrated computer skills and experience with email, word processing, spreadsheets, social media, and desktop publishing software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to express ideas, concepts, marketing processes and policies effectively during meetings, in presentations, one-on-one, and in email communication.
- Proven project management skills. Ability to manage projects within scope, schedule and budget, and drive work towards completion with a sense of urgency; manage projects simultaneously, prioritize, and proactively communicate issues and decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to be inventive and creative, including but not limited to initiating new programs, conceptualizing, organizing, and directing projects.
- Strong interpersonal communication and political acumen skills to work effectively with a large, diverse, and multifaceted organization; interface with a wide array of colleagues, students, faculty, and the public.
- Skilled in coordinating efforts and collaborating with a variety of individuals having conflicting agendas.
- Strong skills in event and media activities management.
- Skill in mentoring less experienced staff. Ability to hire and effectively train and supervise students. .
- Ability to write and edit marketing communications such as news releases, advertising copy, social media posts, and other promotional material content, as well as documents such as project proposals, event plans, customer feedback reports, etc.
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team.
- Proven analytical skills with ability to problem solve, meet deadlines under pressure of high volume and constant disruptions; is resourceful, and comfortable with ambiguity.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Thorough knowledge of the campus, including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives and infrastructure.
- Thorough knowledge of the products and services of the campus and department.
- Experience developing viable marketing campaigns to introduce or sustain revenue within a campus or other hospitality environment
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT - Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
