USC University Relations (UR) supports the universityâs leadership, faculty, staff, and students in building meaningful, long-lasting partnerships to advance the institutionâs mission and enhance the quality of life for USC and its surrounding communities to build a shared vision. With more than 200 professionals, UR partners with community stakeholders and leaders at the local, state, and federal levels of government. The departmentâs scope includes government relations, community partnerships, civic engagement and economic partnerships, pre-K-career education programs, and the USC Radio Group.
UR operates major community and civic programs across Los Angeles, with a special emphasis on the neighborhoods adjacent to the University Park and Health Sciences campuses. This includes providing Head Start early childhood education to hundreds of children at seven locations, educating and mentoring thousands of LAUSD students from kindergarten to career, and providing capacity building to hundreds of businesses and community organizations. USC Radio Group is the nationâs largest classical music provider including flagship stations KUSC-Los Angeles and KDFC-Bay Area.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications, the Marketing Administrator will be responsible for managing and implementing a strategic communication plan, overseeing the ongoing efforts to create a new web presence for URâs internal and external constituents, and the creation of communication and marketing materials across all media platforms.
In particular, the position will:
Plan, manage and implement public relations events, activities, and projects that enhance the publicâs awareness of the university and division.
Plan, implement and oversee the production of marketing and communication materials across multiple media platforms, including the administration of the departmentâs web presence.
Develop cohesive annual and long-range marketing strategies and goals to build and engage the divisionâs constituents and publicize the universityâs community and civic programs.
Develop and produce reports for external and internal stakeholders, including faculty, staff, student, alumni, and key stakeholders.
Writes and reviews copy for the divisionâs internal and external publications, including senior administration-related publications.
Prepares and coordinates comprehensive project plans, including budget proposals and requests for public relations activities, as assigned.
Provides strategy and support to manage constituent data for the entire division.
Represent the department at professional meetings, conferences, and other internal and external events.
Develop and maintain contacts with USC officials, community leaders, and assigned stakeholders.
Successful candidates will have prior experience managing high-stakes projects in higher education, government relations, campaigns, and strategic communication planning during periods of change. The department is looking for a team-oriented individual with a keen eye for identifying new opportunities who is excited and energetic about change and eager to try new approaches.
Bachelor's degree minimum.
At least 5-7 years of community engagement and/or campaign communications experience preferred.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.
Experience and knowledge of South Los Angeles and Eastside communities and other diverse constituencies across Los Angeles County.
Experience working in a cross-functional team to support broader unit goals is preferred.
Minimum Field of Expertise: Public relations, communications, government, or related field.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in project management.
At least two years of experience managing website projects.
Experience managing sensitive constituent information and database.
Proficiency with WordPress, MailChimp, and Salesforce. Strong experience with InDesign and Photoshop required.
Experience preparing and presenting communications materials to executive teams and stakeholder groups.
