Duties and Responsibilities
*The Marketing Specialist (Director of Marketing and Fan Experience) is responsible for leading marketing efforts to generate revenue, increase attendance, enhance the game day experience, and build brand affinity for University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Athletics Programs.
*Develop and execute marketing, promotions, and game day production plans. Prioritize and incorporate department sponsorship fulfilments in various plans.
*Lead the development and execution of cutting-edge promotions, fan engagement opportunities and other in-venue interactive fan activities.
*Build and strengthen community outreach through researching and developing new marketing campaigns with the goal of increasing attendance at home athletic events.
*Develop and implement strategies to increase levels of student involvement through the Student H-Rewards Program including, but not limited to, attending and presenting/contributing to student group meetings, orientation, working closely with student government, recreational sports, student affairs and residence life to provide activities for students in conjunction with athletic events.
*Responsible for hiring, training, managing, evaluating and supervising the marketing team including assistants, casual hires, student assistants, interns, and volunteers.
*Collaborates with the External Affairs Team (Ticketing, Media Relations, Digital Media) in the creation and execution of all external email communication for the Athletics Department, including but not limited to season ticket campaigns, ticket sales, trade agreements, game day information, and general announcements. Evaluate effectiveness and adjust as needed.
*Develop innovative ways to promote all athletic teams and branding via television, radio, print and digital advertising, email marketing and social media, while taking advantage of emerging technology.
*Responsible for leading and managing the marketing staff with the planning, coordination and implementation of all game day activities and promotions including but not limited to 1) Public Address & Live Mic Personalities; 2) DJ & Music; 3) Videoboard production 4) In-game promotions and giveaways; 5) In venue presentations sponsored by the Athletics Department; 6) Overall production planning; 7) band performances; 8) Spirit – Cheerleaders and Rainbow Dancers; and 8) all other game day related activities.
*Responsible for leading the marketing team with developing timing sheets, game scripts and plans, conducting and evaluating effectiveness of game-day promotional and entertainment activities and promotions.
*Responsible to attend scheduled UH Athletics related events which will require working a flexible work schedule including working nights, weekends and holidays.
*Represent the University, its student-athletes and coaches with the highest of standards and character with the goal or providing a professional and positive experience for all individuals involved.
*Keep abreast of current and emerging marketing trends and important updates in the marketing industry by researching articles, evaluating marketing promotional materials, attending seminars, connecting with colleagues, etc.
Ensures all marketing activities and promotions are in compliance with NCAA rules and regulations and University policies and procedures.
*Responsible for performing the duties of a Campus Security Authority as defined by University policy and federal law with regards to the Clery Act.
*Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with federal and state laws and University of Hawaii policies.
*Maintain collaborative working relationships with administrators and coaches in the department, other college offices, and appropriate relationships with external constituents and other individuals interested in the Athletics Department.
*Know, recognize, and comply with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawaii and its employees, and the rules of the NCAA and affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future. Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees or students, have occurred or will occur.

Possession of a baccalaureate degree in communication, journalism, sports management, marketing, business administration or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for intercollegiate athletic marketing, communication, advertising, and/or sales; or equivalent education/training or experience.
Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of sports marketing, event management, promotions, and sponsorship fulfillment for intercollegiate athletics program as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with sports marketing, event management, promotions, and sponsorship fulfillment for intercollegiate athletics program.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
Knowledge of NCAA rules as it relates to marketing and branding.
Demonstrated passion for intercollegiate athletics and an understanding of the evolving college sports landscape.
Demonstrated ability to apply spreadsheet processing software.
Demonstrated ability to apply Adobe Creative Suite software like Photoshop and Premiere Pro.
Considerable working knowledge and experience managing and executing campaigns on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
Must be able to work nights, weekends, holidays and a flexible schedule, as needed for scheduled Athletics events.
Must be able to multi-task and prioritize tasks in a time-sensitive environment.
Excellent project management skills.
Ability to maintain composure while under the stress, pressure and time-sensitive demands of the job.
Experience in conceptualizing and implementing strong marketing strategies and campaigns with positive results.
Exceptional customer service skills including a personable and outgoing disposition.
Ability to develop marketing strategies/plans respectful of various cultural diversities.
Self-motivated attitude with the ability to work independently, embrace change and welcome fresh perspectives.
Possession of valid Driver's License, Class 3 to transport crew and other equipment/supplies on/off campus.
Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
